John at Lisa & Neil's wedding

Recently deceased leaving 3 loving daughters, John was living in Lyme Regis, Dorset but his heart lived in Bantry Bay and more precisely Whiddy Island where he was brought up and schooled.

John was given a fine send off in Lyme Regis on Tuesday 9th November, the family would like to thank all those who attended, he now lies at rest in Axminster Cemetery.

Below is a photograph of his youngest daughter Mary getting Married in Weymouth, Dorset to Matt Walkden

John's Toast
I take this glass in to my hand
And drink to the company here
For God only knows where we might be
in the course of another year
Some may be wed and some may be dead
And some on a foreign shore
And if health was something that money could buy
Then the rich would live and the poor would die
But God in his wisdom made it so
That the rich and the poor together must go!

His other daughters are Kay & Mary.

One of John's jokes:

2 drunks sitting next to each other in a pub, one sasys to the other "Are you married?"
"Yes, I'm Married"
"Oh that's good"
"It's not so good, she's very ugly"
"Oh that's bad"
"It's not so bad, she's very rich"
"Oh that's good"
"It's not so good, she's very mean"
"Oh that's bad"
"It's not so bad, she owns a big house"
"Oh that's good"
"It's not so good, the house burnt down"
"Oh that's bad"
"It's not so bad, she was in it!"

Written for John by Eddi & john in USA

"Stepaside" he called it
His cottage down the lane
In the lee of the hill.
"Stepaside", he invited us all
And leave your cares behind.

We joined him in the quiet spot
And drank a cup of tea
In the green, green garden
By the rippling stream.
We laughed our cares behind.

It is there we see him still,
Unruly mop of curls bobbing
And eyes sparkling with laughter,
The Penny whistle at his lips.
As in our hearts we Stepaside.
